SERIA: MINIMAL

SERIA: MINIMAL The MINIMAL series is of course light, but also it is minimalism of form and compatibility with other series. Due to the enormous growth of the “light and fast” segment, the market is full of extremely light and durable materials. Like many manufacturers, we used the lightest ones. But that was not the most important thing for us. First of all, we wanted to find forms of products that would redefine our ultra-light products. For this purpose, we applied the principle of reduction spearheading the entire series. We try to use the simplest solutions while maintaining the full functionality of the product.

SHAPE: TRAPEZ

Trapezoid is an outline that gradually runs from the shoulders to the feet. It is a cut that simplifies the anatomic outline. More fitted in the chest. Provides a good weight to thermal comfort ratio.

CUT: REGULAR

To facilitate comparison, we distinguished three fits: snug, regular and loose.

LAYERS TYPE: H-SHAPED BOX BAFFLING

H-shaped or classic box baffling. The surface of the fabric and the lining are connected by a perpendicular fabric called a spacer tape. Thanks to this distance, the phenomenon of cold spots in the place of the sewning is reduced. This shape of the baffle allows the down to expand freely and give the insulation layer a regular shape. This is the most common type of baffles we use.

WORKING WITH LESOVIK

Top quilt has been on our minds for a long time, but it always seemed to be a niche product. Year after year, we pushed work on it to a more appropriate time. Until Rafał Palowski, the founder of the LESOVIK brand, and Adam Frątczak from Hopeless Outdoor Team came to us with a proposal to create an under and top quilt together. We have been following the development of LESOVIK for a long time. It is a leader among hammock manufacturers and the first Polish brand in this area. We have always been attracted to the minimalism of his designs, innovative products and conscious communication accompanying the brand. It was immediately clear that the time had come to start working on the top quilt.

CONSULTATIONS

We started the work by inviting people who knew quite a lot about light camping:

Andrzej Ambroż, the author of Hamakomania, who has been involved in the design process and testing of the Lesovik range of products for many years.
Adam Frątczak, a specialist in forest tourism.
Kuba Woźniak, our guide to the world of outdoor equipment and its reviewer for the "Na Szczycie" magazine. He works in a travel shop, and above all, he is an avid ultra runner

TOP QUILT IDEA

Top quilt is minimalism. This idea is based on reducing everything that is not necessary for our comfort during the night. Sleeping in a sleeping bag, we knead its bottom, which means that this space does not insulate effectively. In the case of hammocks, the ineffective area is even larger because the contact plane and pressure are greater. Secondly, the hood. It's a myth that the head is crucial to our thermal comfort. The chest is the key. Third, the zipper. The lack of a back allows you to easily throw the top quilt over yourself, making the zipper redundant.

5.

REINVENTING TOP QUILT

A top quilt is usually a sheet with a cord system or a sleeping bag without a back and a zipper. The first, in order to be fully functional, needs integration with the mat or the pressure of the hammock walls. The second is just an unusual variant of a sleeping bag. We dreamed of an independent system that would make camping comfortable. Based on discussions with our partners, we set the main goals. First, and foremost we took care of the stabilisation of the quilt. If it is to be an autonomous system, it must provide comfort without the need to supplement it with other equipment. Secondly: convenience. Most top quilts available on the market are tight and closing the shoulders and neck involves tightening the adjustments. Third, shoulder and neck protection. This is a sensitive area. Everyone we spoke to pointed to the inconvenience of the solutions they had the opportunity to use.

SELF-SUPPORTING

What distinguishes HEX is its self-supporting construction. Our goal was to design a product that, when put on, will fit as it should, ensuring thermal comfort and convenience. The key to achieving this goal was the dome modelled in three dimensions, which closes the structure on the shoulders and around the neck. It surrounds the shoulders from all sides and makes the sides of the structure wrap underneath.

7.

COLLAR

The dome is closed with a spatial collar. First, it covers the neck. Secondly, it curls in. Thanks to this, it complements the dome, providing the user with comfort and minimising heat loss in a sensitive place. The collar fits around the neck and runs parallel to it towards the shoulders. Thanks to the spatially modelled dome, it closes the structure tightly and does not require removal to protect against heat loss.

SECTION OF A HEXAGON

Top quilts are usually simple products that complement the offer. Three assumptions that we adopted when designing HEX led us to create a unique structure that redefines what a top quilt is. In our offer of sleeping bags you can find two types of cross-sections. Two-piece and boxed. The first is a standard solution that is most often used in sleeping bags. Connect the top and bottom with the edges. In the case of box construction, we add separate panels on the sides to create more space and reduce heat loss at the edges. HEX has double sides, which means that it has a hexagonal cross-section. It's a unique design. Thanks to it, the dome and sides automatically wrap us from the sides and from the bottom.

9.

WING ADJUSTMENT

The dome and sides make the HEX close despite the lack of a back. However, there is one more element that was needed to achieve a self-supporting system. The opening on the back narrows towards the bottom and ends with a tab. Thanks to this, the sides can expand and narrow, still tightly wrapping the sides and bottom. The system of adjustable wings provides comfortable space in the area of the body, hips and knees. This is a huge advantage that distinguishes HEX from other top quilts.

LEG POUCH

One of the elements that partners strongly emphasised during the consultation was the comfort in the legs. We took care of it by forming a spatial pouch with a floating trapezoidal bottom. It is a shape that corresponds to the natural position of the feet. In addition, the pouch is adequately spacious. For the comfort in the legs, the tab is also very important, which not only provides comfort in the torso area, but also allows for free positioning of knees.

11.

POCKETS

An important element of HEX are three pockets closed with an envelope. The lack of a zipper is of course a weight saver. But that's not all that sets them apart. First, we placed them on folded sides. Due to this, not only are they not heavy on the chest , but they also stabilise the wings of the top quilt. Secondly, they are located around the hips. This makes them very easy to reach.

NATURE-FRIENDLY AND LIGHTWEIGHT

HEX is made of ultra-light LOTUS fabric, which replaced Toray AIRTASTIC in our offer. It is equally light and breathable, but moreover, it is made entirely of recycled materials, has leading certificates on eco-friendliness of its creation process, and its production uses only a trace amount of water. This is a very important step for consciously building our offer. It will be a gradual and long-term process, but we would like to ultimately make most of our products from recycled or natural materials.

SYNTHETIC OR NATURAL DOWN

HEX turned out to be a very versatile system for camping. That is why we have prepared three versions. Two with natural down, filled with 200 or 400 grams for those for whom weight is a key element, and a light synthetic version using Climashield 67. The latter was prepared mainly for operational units, both military and rescue.
