HOW TO TAKE CARE OF DOWN

1.

PROPER
STORING

One of the phenomena of down is its compressibility. Each down product can be packed in a very small transport bag or compression bag. After unpacking, our down will easily regain volume and thermal properties. However, down products should not be stored permanently compressed. On a daily basis, it is best to keep sleeping bags in a dedicated cotton bag and clothes hanging in the wardrobe, thus providing adequate space and air flow, so down can serve us longer. It is also worth patting down where it is most clumped up.

2.

HUMIDITY

It is also important that the down sleeping bag is well dried before packing - otherwise, if left compressed for a long time, it may feel felted and acquire a bad smell. It is also worth airing the down once in a while to keep it in good condition, especially when it has not been used for a long time.

HOW TO WASH
DOWN

Down, similar to wool or silk, can be washed in water with the use of gentle detergents. You can also use dedicated down washes. Down should not be dry cleaned. This can damage downs filaments due to over drying and cause them to break. More visible dirt outside the fabric should be removed with a wet sponge. Larger down products must be wet befor and compressed do remove air. Washing itself is simple - gentle cycle and extra rinses to remove detergents. Jacket or sleeping bag should be dried as soon as possible. It is best to do it in a large clothes dryer (60 degrees Celsius) or by hanging the product wide and horizontally. It is important to tap the down several times after washing so it spreads well inside baffles. If you want to use the laundry, use water laundry, not dry cleaning.
